3:45 Ascot
PORTA FORTUNA 7/1 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (3 places, 1/5 odds)
Why is PORTA FORTUNA such a big price when he was 2nd in the 1000 guineas and won at Royal Ascot last year when winning the Albany Stakes. This is a proper group 1 horse and she showed us that when winning the Cheveley Park Stakes as a 2 year old at Newmarket. She went to Santa Anita and was just denied in the Fillies Turf on her first try over 1 mile. Then as a 3 year old she clearly retained all her ability and improved, as it was a great effort in the 1000 guineas. She has not been seen since and I would say she has been trained specifically for this race. The faster the ground the better and PORTA FORTUNA surely has a massive chance at a big price. E/W.

 

4:25 Ascot
ROSALLION 4/1 generally – 1 POINT WIN
ROSALLION has to turn the form around with Notable Speech in the 2000 guineas but I have him down as a horse who will love going around a bend. The 1m around Ascot is exactly that and if he is going to turn the form around anywhere, it will be at Ascot. He went and won the Irish 2000 Guineas following his 2nd in the English 2000 guineas and he should continue to improve further here. The extra run he has on Notable Speech is also a positive and although it won’t be easy, I fancy him to give the favourite plenty to think about. WIN.

 

5:40 Ascot
ISRAR 7/2 generally – 1.25 POINTS WIN
Lots of handicap horses run here and for me the only proper Group horse is ISRAR. He will take all the beating given his form so far this season. He was 2nd in a group 2 at Chester and prior to that he was 3rd in a group 3. Going back to last year he was a group 2 winner and also 2nd in a group 3 at Ascot. ISRAR is a proper horse who I am confident will have too much class for these. Jim Crowley has chosen to ride him Mujtaba and I expect ISRAR to win and to win well. I am expecting him to travel strongly through the race and I hope he is held on to for as long as possible and delivered late in the final furlong, where he will go away from them. WIN.

 

2:30 Ascot

BEDTIME STORY 9/4 generally – 1 POINT WIN
We start the day with BEDTIME STORY. Aiden O’Brien and Ryan Moore have had a terrific week and I am sure that can continue here. This is a horse who is bred very well, being by Frankel and out of Mecca’s Angel. A perfect combination for a 2 year old over this distance. He was a winner 2 weeks ago at Leopardstown and if they are happy to come to the Chesham just 2 weeks later, they obviously think he is a very good horse. Trainer has won this race 6 times in the past and Bedtime Story could be another very smart horse that he has on his hands. WIN.
 
4:25 Ascot
HAAATEM  10/3 generally – 1 POINT WIN
Not sure why HAATEM is not favourite here. He was 3rd in the English 2000 Guineas and was then 2nd to Rossalion in the Irish 2000 guineas. He had today’s favourite behind him back in 3rd and that form was boosted on Tuesday when Rossalion won the St James’s Palace Stakes. I respect the favourite River Tiber but in my opinion he is a 6f horse and I fancy HAATEM to outstay him inside the final furlong. HAATEM has done nothing wrong this season and if anything the drop back to 7f should suit. WIN.

 

3:05 Ascot
INISHERIN 9/4 generally – 1.5 POINTS WIN
I was a bit gutted to hear Elite Status is a non runner as he banged a joint. He was one of my best bets of the week. Karl Burke confirmed that in an interview on ITV today. On that basis I am happy to side with INISHERIN who was 6th in the 2000 guineas. He ran well but ultimately he didn’t stay the trip. They dropped him back to 6f at Haydock in the Sandy Lane and he bolted up. A repeat of that run will see him nearly impossible to beat and I am happy to raise the stake. WIN.
