1:45 Merseyrail Handicap Hurdle

BRIO CONTI 6/1 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (William Hill 7 places and SKY BET 6 places)

BRIO CONTI is my main bet in the race as one you can tell by the raised stake. I loved the way he travelled into the race in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival and can improve further in this race. He won’t mind the but of cut in the ground either. A horse who only came back from a 446 day lay off on 2nd February and it could possibly be, he has not hit top form yet. He was 4th at the Cheltenham Festival and looked the winner coming to the 2nd last hurdle with the hill probably catching him out a bit. On that evidence a flat track like Aintree with play to his strengths. He has only been raised 2lb by the handicapper and I think he still has 5 – 10lb improvement up his sleeve. Paul Nicholls has always held this horse in high regard and with Harry Cobden in the saddle I see no reason why he can’t win this race.
