SAGLAWY 25/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
BRANDON CASTLE 12/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race and they are both horses better known over jumps. I have opted for both as being National Hunt horses, they should appreciate the stamina test on soft ground.
SAGLAWY switched to Paul Nicholls over the summer from Willie Mullins, for Jared Sullivan and for me is a very interesting entry. A horse who is rated 146 over jumps and a horse who won four times, with 3 of them coming on soft ground. His last run over hurdles came in the Irish Champion Hurdle which was won by Honeysuckle. He is obviously a very good horse to be running in races like that. Now switched to the flat having his debut for Paul Nicholls who I am sure has been very shrewd with the horse. SAGLAWY actually won off 93 on the flat, for Willie Mullins last season, so it is well within his capabilities. Kevin Stott takes the ride and he is with Paul Nicholls daughter Megan. I am sure he will want to impress his maybe one day to be Father in Law. E/W.
BRANDON CASTLE is another horse better known in the national hunt game. He is a mud lover who comes here fit and ready, following two wins over jumps. BRANDON CASTLE is on a tiny handicap mark of 88 and in this ground he can take full advantage of. He actually started his career on the flat and once went as high as 99 in the handicap. That makes his mark of 88 look even better, given he is in the form of his life over jumps. E/W.
Good Luck
