*PRICES CORRECT AT THE TIME OF SENDING LAST NIGHT*
1:50 Chepstow
GALICE MACALO 9/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (4 places Sky Bet but we will record 3 places in results)
A very competitive handicap hurdle and all eyes will be on Allmankind. He is the class act here, a proper horse on his day but I am of the opinion this is just a race to get him fit for fences. If the fully fit Allmankind turns up here, he wins it doing cartwheels but it is not going to be an easy task, first time up, carrying 11st 12lb. If we go back to last season he had his first start over hurdles, in a similar race and got turned over. At a short price the first time up, he is there to be shot at.
The horse I am happy to take him on with is GALICE MACALO who gets a huge 19lb from Allmankind with just 10st 7lb on his back. Chester Williams takes the ride and claims a further 3lb so he will actually be carrying 10st 4lb. GALICE MACALO is still a horse who is improving and I think this season we see the very best of him. He lines up on a mark of 131 and that is a mark I think he could make an absolute mockery of. He won 3 races last season and was an excellent 2nd at Sandown in a Listed Handicap Hurdle, travelling really strongly that day but just got caught on the run in. What I love about this horse is his ability to jump, he wings the hurdles and when you combine that with his strong travelling horse who should now be physically stronger with a summer on his back, you should have a horse capable of winning a race like this. He even won at the course last March by 15 lengths so we know he handles Chepstow. I imagine this has been the plan for sometime following that win and I am confident he is at least placed.
3:35 Newmarket
BUZZ 7/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (7 places, 1/5 odds)
I always like to have one on my side in the Cesareswitch as it is the biggest handicap of the year with the most runners. It is basically a National Hunt race with no hurdles over a trip of 2m 2f.
I am happy to side with BUZZ who is trained by Nicky Henderson and the fact he has snapped up the services of Champion Jockey Oisin Murphy, gives me even more confidence. Oisin Murphy had to step down from riding today as he blew over the riding limit for Alcohol but under the limit for driving. I didn’t realise until today they were different so you learn something new everyday. Oisin Murphy after today’s news will be chomping at the bit tomorrow and I would rather have him on side than against.
BUZZ is a former flat horse who has previously won off a mark of 93 and placed off a mark of 98. He was then sent to Nicky Henderson 2 seasons ago with a National Hunt career in mind and has not looked back since. His latest start was an excellent 2nd in the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle and 3 starts back, a 2nd in the Betfair Hurdle. Over hurdles he is now rated 155 which makes his current flat mark of 96 look tiny. BUZZ travels smoothly through his races and this type of race is perfect for him, as he is pretty much guaranteed and very fast pace that he needs. It all depends on the traffic problems he encounters but we have the best pilot in the business riding so fingers crossed BUZZ can go close. With 7 places on offer we have to go each way. E/W.
Good Luck
