No joy with yesterdays free tip although I think Paul Townend didn’t give Dinoblue the best ride in the world. He should have tucked her in behind the leader and got some cover rather than race on the outside. I doubt she would have troubled the winner, regardless, but race riding is very important in this game.
Today we have 2 free tips in the same race. I think the favourite is very beatable and I am happy to dutch in the race.
PUNCHESTOWN FREE TIPS DAY 2
MINELLA COCOONER 9/2 generally – 1.25 POINTS WIN
MINELLA CROONER 4/1 generally – 1 PT WIN
We are backing 2 horses here with virtually the same name.
MINELLA COCOONER is a front runner and it was music to my ears when I saw Danny Mullins in the saddle, taking over from Paul Townend who rode him at Cheltenham. When Danny Mullins goes from the front he is just magic and we have only got to mention Flooring Porter which confirms just how good he is. MINELLA COCOONER was 2nd in the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but he did make 2 uncharacteristic errors yet was still travelling well coming to the last 2 hurdles. He got down going up the hill to The Nice Guy but I think he can turn that form around at a course like Punchestown. On his penultimate start MINELLA COCOONER jumping was foot perfect so we know he is a good jumper on his day. The price looks decent and he should be thereabouts. WIN.
MINELLA CROONER missed Cheltenham due to a small setback but at the time was fighting for favouritism in the Albert Bartlett. Missing the festival could be a blessing in disguise as he will be lovely and fresh here while others around him have had previous runs which could have taken it out of them. MINELLA CROONER is 2 from 2 around Punchestown so we know he likes the course while on his last start in February, he was 2nd to Minella Cocooner at the Dublin Racing Festival over 2m 6f. He stayed on very well and looked to be crying out for a 3 mile trip which he gets here.
If he can get his jumping together he will be very hard to beat and being by Shantou and out of a German Dam, the drying ground should be appreciated. WIN.
