MONTASSIB 4/1 generally – 1 POINT WIN
MONTASSIB is a horse we have been following this season and he is yet to deliver for us although I think he has had his excuses. He was given a very poor ride last time out which was unusual for Danny Tudhope but he gave him far much to do, sitting nearly 10 lengths off the leaders, turning for home. He made up lots of ground and only went down by 2 lengths. You can’t help but think if he was a tad closer he would have gone very close. Having said all that, his form this season has been decent with a 4th of 18 in a competitive handicap at Newmarket, a 5th of 29 at Royal Ascot in the Buckingham Palace Stakes and prior to that, won 2 races. I think now running at Haydock which has a 4 furlong straight, he will have plenty of time to pick up even if he is off the pace. This is the easiest race he has contested in his last 4 races and I think it will take a good one to beat him. WIN.

MEDITATE 9/4 generally – 2 POINT WIN
My NAP of day, hence the raised stake and no matter what angle I take, I am finding it hard to get her beat. She has only lost one race and that was last time out on soft ground to Tahiyra, who looks an absolute superstar. MEDITATE was an easy winner of the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot over today’s trip of 6f and then she followed this up with a win in the group 2 Debutante Stakes over 7f. She is a proper horse and is the one they all have to beat. This drying ground will play to her advantages and if she does get beat it will be to a very good horse. I just can’t see anything but a win and I feel she is value at the price as I make her a 6/4 shot. WIN.

COUNT D’ORSAY 11/2 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
COUNT D’ORSAY went into my notebook last time out and I wrote next to him ‘will win in his next 2 starts’. Down to a handicap mark of 88 which is the same mark as last time out when finishing an excellent 3rd of 19 in the Portland Handicap. That was more competitive than todays and although we have a number of runners who also ran in that race, COUNT D’ORSAY did best of them all. COUNT D’ORSAY was 2nd in this very race back in 2020 and that was off an 8lb higher handicap mark of 96. David Allen takes the ride and he is a jockey who has rode the horse to 4 of his 5 career wins. With 5 places on offer he is a strong bet.
