JATILUWIH 6/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (3 places, 1/5 odds)
JATILUWIH is a horse I have often eyed up with a view to bet but he is always partnered by his owner David Maxwell, and I refuse to back any horses he rides as I just don’t think he is a good jockey. I have nothing against him, he seems a very nice person and credit where it is due, he pays the bills and spends money, so if he wants to ride his horses, go ahead and do it, I take my hat off to him. On the flip side when he does ride his horses it won’t be carrying my money as he is not a pretty site in the saddle and I am allowed that opinion when I am spending my own money.
Anyway moving on with JATILUWIH, today he will be ridden by Tom O’Brien which is actually the first time the horse has ever been ridden by a professional jockey. I am very interested to see what improvement may or will come.
JATILUWIH has had 2 runs this season and on both occasions came home 4th running 2 nice races. He is now down to a handicap mark of 135 which is 3lb down from where he was at the start of the season.
DOES HE KNOW 7/1 generally – 1 POINT WIN
Interesting race with 7 runners going to post. Hitman heads the market and he is a very classy horse but I am not entirely convinced he wants a fast run 3 mile race. He was pulled up in the King George on his first try over the trip and I would want to see a bit more from him over this trip, if I was to back him at a skinny price.
The one horse I would like to see go out and do it from the front is DOES HE KNOW. He is not a flashy horse, probably does not belong at this level but on a going day he is a very tough horse who will keep grinding races out for you. If this turns into a real stamina test, with only 7 runners, he can make the test himself, he could get away from them and certainly those who may be ‘non-stayers’.
The one thing that has struck me is his form on good ground. He is probably the only horse in the race who wants genuine good ground and his form on good ground reads 11211121. That is 6 wins from 8 starts and the two losses were 2nd place efforts.
For me this is not the strongest renewal of the Denman Chase and apart from one of two horses, it looks more like a handicap race. DOES HE KNOW is overpriced and I am happy to go win only. WIN.
