SCRIPTWRITER 13/8 generally – 2 POINT WIN
My NAP of the day is SCRIPTWRITER. Milton Harris thinks a lot of this horse and he is a horse who has won us a bit of money this season. In my opinion he is a Grade 1 horse and a horse with a live outside chance in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival. If he is to have any chance of winning that race then he has to be winning this race and I am quietly confident he is too classy for the rest of the field. He has to give away 5lb to the field but he is surely 5lb and more better than the rest. He is 2 from 3 over hurdles this season and really should have won his last race with a better ride from Paddy Brennan. You will see him travel strong into the race and no doubt will use his flat speed to get away from them after the final hurdle. WIN.
CAP DU NORD 9/2 generally – 1 POINT WIN
FRODON 8/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (4 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race. One top weight and the other bottom weight.
CAP DU NORD won this race last year and he could not be coming into this race in better form. He was the winner of the Swinley Handicap Chase last weekend and although he has a 5lb penalty, they are using Cian Quirke to claim 5lb off his back. Trainer Christian Williams has a habit of getting these claiming rides correct and he did the same last year with Rob James and Win My Wings.
CAP DU NORD is obviously in top class form and we saw him a few seasons ago rattle up some wins in quick succession. If they thought he had a hard race last weekend, he would not be running here but I am confident they believe he can win, especially with 10st 2lb and a further 5lb taken off his back. This horse loves it around Kempton and is sure to go very close.
I can’t leave FRODON out even though he has a mammoth task carrying top weight. He also loves it around Kempton and was the winner of the King George Chase back in 2020. He was also 3rd in the 2022 King George Chase behind Bravemansgame so he is obviously still a very talented horse. He was below par last time out at Cheltenham but that stamina test in the Cotswold Chase just stretches him a bit too much. The return to better ground will be appreciated and if FRODON gets into a nice rhythm he could be hard to peg back. It is going to be an all out effort following the last fence, given the weight he has on his back, but he is certainly capable of doing it. He won the Badger Ales off top weight back in November and he has coped well with big lumps of weight in the past. E/W.
