KORKER 8/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (4 places, 1/5 odds)
We end Day 1 with a Karl Burke horse and start Day 2 with a Karl Burke horse in KORKER who is my NAP of the Dante Festival. He is back down from Group 3 company into a handicap and a return to better ground which is going to be a massive plus. KORKER is all about speed and he was a winner at this fixture last season. I have also done some time trials at last years meeting and the winner of this race last year was Fine Wine who carried 8st 1lb to success in a time of 58.83 seconds. A day later and KORKER on exactly the same ground and distance, won a Class 3 Handicap in a time of 58.76 with 9st 9lb on his back. He was only 0.06 seconds faster but had nearly 2 stone more on his back and he didn’t just win he blew the field apart. That is the type of horse we are talking about, a very classy horse who when he gets decent ground, is a group level horse.
KORKER has missed the break a few times in the past so we need to hope he breaks well here but if he does, I am sure he will travel better than anything and can kick away inside the final furlong. He comes into the race rated 100 but I am confident he can win off that mark. It has come down from 104.
His form around York is excellent and reads 27213. Clifford Lee takes the ride and he has been on board for 3 of his 4 career starts. E/W.

FREE WIND 13/8 generally – 1.25 POINTS WIN
Trying to find something to beat FREE WIND has been impossible and I actually make her a 5/4 shot, which gives us some decent value at 13/8. She is a very special horse in my opinion and although she has only run once since September 2021, it was a winning run when winning the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock last July. FREE WIND even got hampered, the gap closed on the inside and she still managed to get up to beat Sea La Rosa. You have to be a serious horse to be able to do that. Back to 2021 and she was the easiest of winning in the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes and I can only see this race going one way. She is back in trip to 1m 2f but I don’t see that being a problem after seeing the way she picked up from a virtually standing start, at Haydock. She has to potential to be the easiest winner of the Dante meeting. WIN.
