AYE RIGHT 4/1 generally – 1 POINT WIN
Wouldn’t it be great to get official National Hunt Season off to a flyer. Well in AYE RIGHT I think we have an outstanding chance and at a decent enough price.
It took some getting used to getting my head around the race but in the end there was only horse who I wanted my money to be on.
The rain is coming in this afternoon and into tomorrow and I expect the ground will possibly be soft by the morning. The soft ground will do Thomas Darby no favours and although he is possibly the classiest horse in the race, he has always been a horse who has hated soft ground, so much so I would not be surprised if he was a non runner come tomorrow.
Danny Kirwan is a right handed course horse and has never won in 4 attempts going left handed, while a further 15 of his runs have been right handed around Kempton, Ascot, Sandown etc. I think that tells us all we need to know.
Landofsmiles is in the form of his life but I am not sure he can step it up again in this company.
Chrico Vallis wants better ground and De Rasher Counter is a horse I have never fallen for.
That leaves Good Boy Bobby who will love the rain which is falling, being by Flemensfirth but he has recently been sold by Simon Munir which is never a good sign and although he has come down the handicap rapidly, he didn’t finish last like a horse who was in love with the game.
That leaves me with AYE RIGHT who I think has too much class for these. He may have top weight to carry but that has not stopped him in the past in better company than today.
He started last season rated 156 and finished 2nd in the Edinburgh Gin Chase, carrying 11st 12lb, the same as today.
AYE RIGHT also goes very well fresh and since his career started, his form first time up reads 11252 which is good enough for me.
This is a horse whose last run came in a Group 1 at Ascot behind Shishkin. He was never going to win that race but this is a big step down in class. Even prior to that he was running in the Grade 3 Rowland Merrick, as well as the 2022 Gold Cup, 2022 Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham.
The point I am getting at is this horse is a very good horse and now down to a handicap mark of 150, he has to have a great chance.
It is great to see Ryan Mania in the saddle and taking over from Connor Bewley. Take nothing away from Bewley but Ryan Mania is a better jockey and a jockey who I feel is very much underrated.
The rain which is forecast is going to be right up his street and he is a horse who stays and stays.
Personally I would love Ryan Mania to take the race from the front and let him use his excellent jumping and stamina. I believe that is the way he will or can win the race as others won’t get home in the ground and are not proper 3 milers like AYE RIGHT. WIN.
