2:10 Brown Advisory Chase
STAY AWAY FAY 10/3 generally – 1.5 POINTS WIN
I truly believe in soft ground, Fact To File is there for the taking over this trip. Can Fact To File win? Of course he looked exceptional last time out but in soft ground against a dour stayer in STAY AWAY FAY, I think he has his work cut out. I am hoping Harry Cobden is positive on STAY AWAY FAY and goes from the front, the same way he did when winning the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle at the Festival last season. If he is to beat Fact To File he has to ask him the question – do you stay?
There is no doubt about it that STAY AWAY FAY stays all day long and he is a superb jumper of a fence, a natural staying chaser.
Paul Nicholls thinks so much of this horse and was even comtemplating the Gold Cup as a novice, as he ran in the Cotswold Chase on Trials Day. He came home 3rd to Capodanno and The Real Whacker which is some going on only your 3rd chase start. In his two runs prior he was a winner at Exeter and Sandown, two courses which probably don’t suit.
I am quietly confident if given the right ride by Harry Cobden he can outstay Fact To File in similar fashion to how Denman outstayed Kauto Star in the 2008 Gold Cup. I am not comparing any of those horses to today’s runners, just that this race has that feel about it as this is Fact To File first try at 3 miles. Come on STAY AWAY FAY make this a true stamina test and get those in behind working. WIN.

SA MAJESTE 5/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
GUARD YOUR DREAMS 25/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race.
I was eyeing up Doddiethegreat for a while for this race but on soft ground and the form of Nicky Henderson, I just can’t back him at the price.
Langer Dan is a horse we were on last year in this race and he lines up on the same terms as last year. He has obviously been aimed at this race all year but it is reported this time that he has had ulcers which is hardly ideal. Even so and given how bent Skelton is with this horse, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make a massive improvement. How he gets away with it is beyond me by cheating all season. I am going to swerve him this year as you can only get away with it so many times, surely.
The two I fancy are SA MAJESTE and GUARD YOUR DREAMS.
SA MAJESTE is one of my handicap bets of the festival and I think this really could be another State Man all over again, he could be that far ahead of the handicapper. SA MAJESTE beat Noble Yeats back in December and Noble Yeats went on to win the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham at the end of January. Our selection has been given a mark of 140 which I feel is very lenient given NOBLE YEATS was rated 152, yet SA MAJESTE beat him by 5 lengths. The Willie Mullins trained horse is only a 5 year old who came over from France following a win at Auteuil. He is a mud loving horse and has clearly been kept for this race and his handicap mark protected. He is a novice but we see it time and again, where Willie Mullins keeps these type of horses up his sleeve and makes the handicapper look silly. SA MAJESTE looks to be one of those and I can see him going off around 7/2. E/W.
Our 2nd selection is GUARD YOUR DREAMS who looks a massive price now down to a handicap mark of 137. This is a horse who ran in this race back in 2021 coming home 7th of 23 and it is safe to say he is a better horse than he was back then. He went off 7/1 that day which makes his price look even better. Since running in this race in 2021 he has gone on to win the International Hurdle, as well as run some big races in graded races. He was on the sidelines from April 2022 until January this year, and I believe he has been trained with this handicap in mind since. He has all the attributes needed in a race like this and he don’t mind getting into a battle. He has speed as well as stamina and if he is close enough coming over the final hurdle, not many will get up the hill better. I think he could be thrown in on a mark of 137 as he is only an 8 year old. With Sam Twiston Davies on board, you know if he gets into a battle coming up the hill, we have one of the strongest jockeys around on board. E/W.
