KING’S GAMBIT 10/1 Bet 365, 9/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W
KING’S GAMBIT is actually the joint highest rated in the race yet is only 8th best in the betting. I think he could be the forgotten horse here as this is a listed race and I feel he is a group 2/group 1 horse at best.
Last season KING’S GAMBIT ran in the Hampton Court Stakes and missed the start. He still rallied and nearly got up but he was definitely the best horse in the race and should have won.
He was stepped up to better company on his next start, just going down in two group 2s at York, 1/2 length off the classy Los Angeles which looks like great form.
He has had one start this season when well below par at Newbury but he was not fit that day and I do think 1m 4f stretches him a bit and he is much better over today’s trip of 1m 2f.
I still think he has more improvement to come, especially as he was gelded in February and now a strip fitter, he will concentrate and improve.
Another who has been trained for this race.
I also love the booking of James McDonald who is over from Austraila. He is a top class jockey and it is no wonder Wathnan Racing have snapped him up to ride their horses at Royal Ascot.
KING’S GAMBIT is overpriced and I think he will make the frame at the very least. E/W.
Good Luck
