EAST INDIA DOCK 13/2 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
We were on EAST INDIA DOCK at Royal Ascot last time out and although he ran a sound enough race, over 2m 4f, he probably had too much weight on his back. I am happy to side with him again though back to 2 miles and with a wide draw. I like a wide draw in this race for a horse who likes to be prominent, as they don’t get trapped on the inside and James Doyle will be able to make use of him early on in the race. He stays further than this trip so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him right up top from the get go.
EAST INDIA DOCK was the winner of the Chester Cup back in May and prior to that had an excellent hurdles campaign. He also doesn’t mind a bit of cut in the ground and I find those horses who like cut in the ground, do well on the All Weather. The All Weather track really does not bother me like it may for some.
He is rated 97 but I think he is capable of winning off that mark and it is great to see James Doyle back in the saddle.
It has only been 11 days since he ran at Royal Ascot but I trust trainer James Owen and he will know he has the horse ready.
EAST INDIA DOCK is all class and I think a lot of these will find it hard against the class of our selection.
As long as he has no ill effects from Royal Ascot, he is the one they all have to beat. E/W.
Good Luck
