Scoop 6 Bonus Race Selection 13th SEPTEMBER 2025

 

TREFOR is the horse we are going for to try and land the £17k on the Bonus race. If we land it, it will be our 4th Bonus race win in 34 months, along with 10 Scoop 6 wins, in the same amount of time. We have absolutely blitzed the Scoop 6 over the last 3 years for nearly £1 million and although this latest has been a bit of a wait since our last win, it is very welcome and I am sure we will go on another huge run of form with the Scoop 6. 

 

This is a very competitive handicap race with 22 runners which was always going to be the case. The Tote won’t make it easy for us but that has not stopped us in the past and with a bit of luck in running, I am quietly confident TREFOR can do the business for us.

 

TREFOR comes into the race after a career best effort last time out, winning a very competitive handicap at the York Ebor meeting off a handicap mark of 93. He is up the handicap 5lb to a handicap mark of 98 so will need another career best, but I just couldn’t help but notice how well he travelled through the race. The faster they went, the better he travelled and it is clear he loves these big field handicaps. Last time when winning at York he faced 19 rivals and it really brought the best out of him. With 22 runners here, it is much the same. 

 

TREFOR is a horse who gets 6f, gets 5f, but this in-between trip of 5 1/2f is just perfect for him. The trip at York last time out was 5 1/2f and look what happened, he won well enough and I think he had a bit more in the tank, as when The Man came to him, he went again.

 

Some may favour a middle draw here but I think the draw of TREFOR is just perfect for his style of running. No doubt they are all going to track over the middle of the course whether you are drawn high or low and that is going to give TREFOR a lovely clear run (inside to middle). It is the same position he came from to win at York when drawn 7. 

 

Kieran Shoemark is back in the saddle and on his last two runs he has got the very best out of the horse so it is good to see him back on board. 

 

I am expecting him to travel sweetly, getting a bit of cover, before being switched for a late run. I can’t see him having many traffic problems from his draw as he can easily be switched to go and win his race.

 

Furthermore TREFOR has good form at Doncaster with a win at the course back in June and a 3rd at the course a month later.

 

The ground is described as good which is absolutely perfect and with the weather dry tomorrow, it is only going to dry out further, another huge positive.

 

We have a few dangers in Air Force One who TREFOR beat last time out and I think he can confirm that form. Air Force One is a hold up horse and with 22 runners he is sure to find a bit of traffic.

 

The other horse high on my list was last year’s 2nd, Apollo One. The booking of Colin Keane looks strong but he is a 7 year old and surely his better days are behind him.

 

Addison Grey comes into the race in top class form but he has been doing it at a lower level and will have to seriously step up to win this. Maybe he can but I would much rather know what horses are capable of when £17k is on the table.

 

TREFOR just ticks every box for me, the race will be run to suit, he is a fast improving 4 year old, he travels well through his races, he has a nice draw so will avoid traffic problems, he has a jockey who is very strong in a finish in these sprints and trainer Charles Hills knows the time of day with these sprinters.

I am not putting TREFOR in the league of these horses but just to give you an inkling of how well Charles Hills handles sprinters, you only got to mention Battaash and Muharaar, two horses who were at the absolute top of the game over sprints winning group 1 after group 1. 

 

We have one shot at this, one horse, one race and after spending the whole week studying the race, TREFOR will be the one to bring it home for us.
