1:50 Cheltenham
HOE JOLY SMOKE 5/1 Ladbrokes, 9/2 generally – 1 POINT WIN
I have been lining HOE JOLY SMOKE up for this race since November when he was 3rd in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. In fact I have been lining two horses up for this race, the other being Il Ridotto if the ground came up good but that won’t be happening here, so we will wait another day for him. That leaves us with HOE JOLY SMOKE who is 2lb better off at the weights with Vincenzo, actually 5lb as Dylan Johnson does not claim 3lb here and I think that will be the difference in turning the form around.
Harry Skelton takes the ride and with 10st 5lb on his back, he is thrown in off a handicap mark fo 131.
He stays a bit further, so the faster they go in front the better. In soft ground this is really going to suit a horse who stays further and I think he can go two places better than what he did in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. That form was boosted by Panic Attack in the Coral Gold Cup and the last report I read was HOE JOLY SMOKE is in rude health.
Dan Skelton cannot stop winning these big weekend handicaps and with next to nothing weight on his back, HOE JOLY SMOKE is the one to beat for me. WIN.
3:35 Cheltenham
JUBILEE ALPHA 5/2 generally – 1.5 POINTS WIN
No doubt about it, if it wasn’t for a big mistake at the 2nd last hurdle last time out, JUBILEE ALPHA wins going away. She travelled so well but nearly came to a stop, yet rallied again to go down by 1 length.
Before that race Paul Nicholls reported she would come on for the race so to go as close as she did and still improvement lef in her, JUBILEE ALPHA surely has a bit in hand here.
She is a very classy horse who was a winner at the course in April. She also ran with credit in the Mares Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and I think her class will shine here.
Another top jockey in Harry Cobden on board and she is the one they all have to beat. WIN.
