4:15 Punchestown
HEWICK 14/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
HEWICK may be getting older but he down to handicap company for the first time in forever. He also gets proper good ground which he loves. He is also down to a handicap mark of 147 from 155 at the start of the season.
Maybe he is a bit long in the tooth but this is not the greatest race in the world and what a way to go out. HEWICK is also a 10 times better horse going right-handed. So many positives make him look very much overpriced. E/W.
4:50 Punchestown
BALLYSAX HANK 14/1 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
PETIT TONERRE 12/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
Two in this race: BALLYSAX HANK who ran a cracker at Cheltenham to finish 6th of 20 in the Grand Annual Chase. Another horse thrives on fast ground; with temperatures soaring tomorrow, he will absolutely love it.
It was only back in October that he placed 2nd in a Grand National Hurdle Stakes in the USA on firm ground. Even last year at the Punchestown Festival, he finished 2nd in a handicap hurdle.
He is only a seven-year-old who still has room for improvement over fences and his mark of 138 looks very workable. James Bowen keeps the ride and he looks very much overpriced in these conditions.
PETITE TONERRE won this race last year and lines up just 1lb higher in the handicap this time around. He is near the bottom of the handicap. Although he has not done much this year, he also hadn’t done much last year before coming over to Ireland and putting in a cracker.
His whole season may have been around this race and again, he could be value on a course he clearly likes.
