Goodwood Festival Review

I approached this festival differently to how I have approached other festivals in the past. At the start of the festival I told everyone that Glorious Goodwood was going to be all about quality over quantity and patience may be needed.

I may have made a few sweat but we got the job done in the end with some big winners on the final day, at 22/1 and 12/1

We came away with 7 points profit, a strike rate of 23% and ROI of 33% from our 20 selections.

We hit a blank on the first day from our 5 selections which was very disappointing but these things happen.

On the 2nd day we only had 3 selections and I thought LORD GLITTERS was an unlucky loser. Two maybe three times the gaps closed on him and had to be switched wide to come with a run. He was still travelling well but just didn’t have the room. Maybe if he was switched earlier it would’ve been a different story but again this is horse racing, these things happen. I still think he is one to keep on the right side of and if it starts to rain near the end of the season that is only going to play to his strengths.

The 3rd day was simply not good enough and all our selections were way below what they were capable of. This was a day where I probably made a few mistakes. I am always honest but I will learn from any mistake.

We finally got off the mark on the 4th day with MIRAGE DANCER advised at 2/1 and returned 6/5. A very good performance and he was given a super ride.

Later in the day I thought we were hard done by with HORS DE COMBAT who had traffic problems on the inside. Had he found a gap earlier he would’ve placed at the very least.

Things were slipping away from us at this point but I was determined to stick to my plan at the start of the festival, find the value and find quality over quantity. I remained disciplined in my approach and when you do this it will always pay dividends.

5th Day and our first race of the day was TOMMY G who we advised at 22/1 the night before. He finished 2nd in the race last year, was 1lb higher in the handicap but had main man Silvestre De Sousa on. Why he was 22/1 I will never know but he was sent off 10/1 and a Rule 4 was applied. What a ride by SDS and he is just so strong in a finish.

This win was quickly followed up SIR CHAUVELIN who was advised at 12/1. He was down in class after travelling so well in previous race, he simply had to go close here. He duly obliged and at this point I was thinking we could pull of a ridiculous day with 2 races left and lots of members on accumulators. It wasn’t to be but we did return with 16/1 shot GROWL who came home 3rd with lots of traffic problems in the Stewards Cup.

Another festival behind us and another festival in profit.

Next up we have the York Ebor which is a festival I have made a profit in for the last 5 seasons. It is one of my favourites mainly down to the fact I find a way to make profit at the place.

Places are expected to be taken up quickly, so get yourself signed up below.

After a successful Goodwood, we are looking to replicate our form at York Dante at the Ebor. We came away with 17.4 points and a return on investment of 89.62%.
