PLATINUM STAR 8/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W
KING NEPTUNE 14/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W
The short price favourite here is Visinari but I am happy to take him on at that price. As impressive as he was on his debut this is a big step up in class against some proven horses from Royal Ascot. He has to be special to win this but his short price has opened up so much value elsewhere. In fact I am happy to take him on with two horses given the value I believe both horses offer.
PLATINUM STAR was 2nd on his debut back in May to a horse called Pinatubo who went on to win the Chesham Stakes very impressively at Royal Ascot. Platinum Star then won his 2nd start over 6f in good style before going down in trip for the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. I thought he ran a cracking race over a trip which was not his best. Now back up to 6f I expect more improvement to come, especially on better ground as he looks a nice moving horse who would do better on decent ground. Overpriced at 8/1 and Harry Bentley is back on board after winning on him on his penultimate start. E/W.
I can’t for the life of me see why KING NEPTUNE is as big as 14/1. Absolutely huge price. If they are basing his price on his Royal Ascot run they have it all wrong. Yes it was a decent 5th but he was beaten by 5 lengths over 5f. He is sired by War Front so would have hated the soft ground so I am not reading to much into that form. The form I am more concerned in is from his penultimate start when 2nd to Siskin over todays trip 6f. Siskin went on to win a Group 2 at the Curragh 2 weeks ago and done so in the most impressive fashion. Siskin looks a serious horse so that 2nd looks top class form. KING NEPTUNE is now back up to 6f and more importantly running on fast ground. He will love conditions and it is eye-catching that Ryan Moore rides this one over Royal Lytham who is shorter in the betting. E/W.
