*PRICES CORRECT AT THE TIME OF SENDING LAST NIGHT*
1:40 York
THRONE HALL 15/2 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
RAYMOND TUSK 16/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race.
At this early stage of season I am normally looking for a horse with a run underneath them. I think the fitness angle early in the season can be crucial in races like this.
THRONE HALL comes into the race with 2 runs under his belt. His season got underway at Doncaster at the end of March where he was a good winner, beating another of today’s runners in Taqareer. He then went to Thirsk and came home 2nd to Golden Pass on fast ground. I have watched many replays of this horse and he does have a knee action which looks likely suited to softer going. With the ground described as good, good to soft in places and further rain forecast, I think the ground will be ideal. THRONE HALL is only a 4 year old who is improving all the time. His career form reads 3/12-12 and he is by Kingman out of Appearance who has produced some nice progeny. THRONE HALL is a horse who likes to be prominent so has a nice draw in 4 where he will be able to get a nice position from the off. E/W.
RAYMOND TUSK is a huge price at 16/1and although he is drawn wide in 14, he is a horse who can get away from the gates fast but even if he don’t, he is a horse who can still drop. This is a horse who did not get going last season until October and rated 111. He then had an all weather campaign which was not great, but his handicap mark plummeted to 99. He then switched yards and was sent to Alan King and has had two runs on the turf, coming home 2nd and 3rd to Outbox at Doncaster and then Sir Ron Priestley at Nottingham. His last race was a good race and although he was easily brushed aside, it was against the Yorkshire Cup favourite Sir Ron Priestley. RAYMOND TUSK is former group horse who will love how this race unfolds. He will have plenty of pace and I believe Alan King may got a new lease of life out of the horse. At the prices he is worth taking a chance that he can find his old form. E/W.
aw may be an advantage and he might finally get a win in one of these big handicaps. E/W.
Good Luck
