A nice winner on the free tips yesterday which quite possibly should have been 2 winners, but for a mistake at the last from Riviere D’Etel. Vauban was excellent though and showed so much speed and he will go very close in the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Today we have two free tips chosen at random from our selections in 3 races.
2:25 Leopardstown
BIRCHDALE 6/1 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
THE SHUNTER 8/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race both owned by JP McManus.
I think BIRCHDALE is absolutely thrown in here on a handicap mark of 129 with Mark McDonagh claiming a further 7lb. He has literally next to nothing on his back. He is on the same handicap mark as last time out and the only reason he didn’t win was because he didn’t quite get home over 3 miles. Now back down in trip to 2m 5f and clearly in a very good place, he has to go close. His handicap mark over hurdles is 144 so with the 7lb claim taken into consideration, he is a massive 22lb lower over fences. Quietly confident and I just hope he is given a prominent ride like last time out and his jumping is excellent once again. E/W.
THE SHUNTER always runs a nice race and should do so again here. He was a winner at last year’s Cheltenham Festival and this was followed up with a 2nd in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices Chase. He then returned over hurdles at the Punchestown Festival coming home 3rd in a handicap hurdle showing just how consistent and versatile he is. His last run came over fences back in July when another excellent 4th over fences in the Galway Chase. This is his first run of the season but he is the class horse in the race and always gives it his all. E/W.
Good Luck
