LA YAKEL 4/1 generally – 1.25 POINTS WIN
EUCHEN GLEN 14/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in this race.
I have had LA YAKEL in my notebook for some time just waiting for when he runs as they clearly think his handicap mark is seriously well in. The reason behind this is LA YAKEL was supposed to run at York on the 17th May but was made a non runner (apparently due to the ground), which he had won on before. He was fit and ready on the 17th May yet they have not run him since, obviously looking after his handicap mark ready for this race, with a big prize on offer. He now lines up in the old Newton Handicap rated 92 and I think he could be at least 10lb well in. He won 2 races last season as a 3 year old but in all his starts he looked like he needed more time and would progress as a 4 year old. That is another reason why he has been in my notebook for many months, shortly after the Flat Season. I think he could turn into a group horse and he is drawn in 4 so should be able to slot into a good position from when the gates open. For me this tip is about a horse I feel is above his handicap mark and more often than not, over the long run, I get these types of horses right. I guess we will find out tomorrow. WIN.
Our 2nd selection is EUCHEN GLEN who I have always thought is tailor made for this type of race. He might be a 10 year old but as I have said in the past, he takes 3 or 4 races to get a spot on and then he usually puts his best foot forward. Once a horse rated 116 a few seasons back, he is now down to a handicap mark of 99 which in my opinion is very workable. Furthermore age is clearly not getting the better of him as he was an excellent 4th of 11 last time out at Ayr, off the same handicap mark as today, a race he so nearly won.
He is drawn in 19 which for some is not ideal but EUCHEN GLEN is always dropped at the back before being released with a late run, where he usually finds a lot under pressure when at the top of his game. I can see EUCHEN GLEN sitting at the back of the field and when they come around the bend he will be angled out to the right and come on the outside of the field, hopefully staying on late and fast to pick up a place or hopefully a nice win. E/W.
