3:35 Stewards Cup – Saturday (Advised Thursday Evening)
CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD 33/1 generally – 1 POINT E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
I have been lining up CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD for this race ever since he finished 2nd at Newmarket on May 6th. I have literally kept it under wraps, praying for the soft ground so we could get stuck in. After finishing 2nd of 21 at Newmarket in a competitive handicap, trainer Jack Channon said immediately after the race, we will now train him for a Wokingham or a Stewards Cup, if the ground comes up soft. They skipped the Wokingham at Royal Ascot as the ground did not come up soft but connections will be beaming now they have his ground for the Stewards Cup. The ground after racing on Wednesday is Heavy and Thursday and Friday it will dry out a little, before the rain returns Saturday morning and Heavy rain is forecast. I would not at all be surprised if the ground went back Heavy and once again CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD will be right in his comfort zone on that ground.
As I always tell everyone, I am always one step ahead and always prepared and it is because of that preparation we will beat everyone to the huge price on offer. CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD will not go off this price and will literally be half the price come race time, if not shorter.
Since finishing 2nd at Newmarket he has run some nice races without winning, on ground which was not ideal. He gets into the race rated 89 and I have no doubt in my mind that in the right conditions, he can win off that mark.
He will travel strongly through the race and then be unleashed with a late charge.
He gets into the race right at the bottom of the handicap with next to nothing on his back and I am all over him. E/W.
5:20 Goodwood
LIBERTY LANE 11/2 generally – 1 POINT E/W (5 places, 1/5 odds)
A rare class 3 bet but LIBERTY LANE is in my tracker and everything points to a big run in the conditions. I will take you back to the debut of LIBERTY LANE at Nottingham, in October 2022, when he won a novice race by 5 lengths on soft ground. After the win trainer Karl Burke said after the race, ‘he relished the ease in the ground’. Now as a 3 year old LIBERTY LANE has run 4 times this season without winning, but on all 4 starts the ground was good or good to firm. LIBERTY LANE has not got his preferred ground all season and now we are here, in a class 3, on his type of ground.
Last time out he was 4th of 12 to Dutch Decoy who went and finished 3rd in a tough handicap today, boosting the form for us. He has been dropped 1lb to a mark of 97 and I think he will be a class apart. Paul Mulrennan once again takes the ride for us and I would be gobsmacked if he did not make the frame at the very least, while I am quietly confident he can win. Lots of runners in this race want better ground and I can see LIBERTY LANE shortening significantly. E/W.
