MORTLAKE 15/8 generally – 1.5 POINTS WIN
I always give a NAP on a Saturday or at Festivals and our NAP’s have done very well recently. Today my NAP is MORTLAKE who I was seriously impressed with Leicester last time out. He is up in class but given how he progressed from his debut to his 2nd start, you have to expect further significant improvement.
I have looked through the field and apart from Starlore who could potentially be anything, I think it is a weak Solario Stakes. Even with Starlore he will have to improve again to beat MORTLAKE.
Ralph Beckett rates this horse highly and I believe it will take a very good horse to beat MORTLAKE. WIN.
4:17 Newton Abbot
SEBASTOPOL 9/2 generally – 1 POINT WIN
The faster the ground the better for SEBASTOPOL and with the weather nice tomorrow down in Devon, it will only improve his chances. He does have to give loads of weight away to the field and that is a slight worry but not enough to make not want to get involved with him. He is an experienced chaser with 12 starts over fences and 4 wins to his name. He has won 33% of his races over fences which is of course an excellent stat. I have looked through the field and it is not a great field and I don’t think this race will take much winning. With a clear round of jumping he has to be involved.
SEBASTOPOL also runs well when fresh and was a Grade 2 winner last year when defeating the classy Stage Star. WIN.
