BONUS RACE SELECTION – SHAKEM UP HARRY
Can we nail the Scoop 6 Bonus for the 4th time in 16 months?
I have woken up with a bit of a dilemma if truth be told. My main selection in the race is SHAKEM UP HARRY but as a second selection I have also tipped up JAMES DU BERLAIS, a horse I have been following for a while.
In the Bonus race we only have one selection and that is it and that selection has to be SHAKEM UP HARRY as I have lined him up for this race for quite a while. That does not mean I don’t think JAMES DU BERLAIS will win though and if he was to win, I would be sick as a pig, especially given my name is James. It takes me back to Quinault in the summer and my 5 year old son being called Quinlan, I said it was meant to be back then and JAMES DU BERLAIS may just be a sign from my late mother once again, as it was back in the summer with Quinault.
Having said that, if I went down the JAMES DU BERLAIS route and SHAKEMUP HARRY wins, I am in the same dilemma and would be gutted. You can’t win.
So it is time to get the thinking cap on and the best way around this and smart betting is:
We will put through SHAKEM UP HARRY as the bonus race selection but and have a £2700 win bet on JAMES DU BERLAIS from yesterdays winnings – 13/2 (bet already placed). That means everyone comes away with ?? per share and more if SHAKEM UP HARRY or JAMES DU BERLAIS wins.
I am sure everyone will be ok with this and it is the best way to play this out meaning we have two shots at increasing how much we have won.
Here is the write up sent out on my tipping page to members last night and I have left the points advised and as seen by members:
4:05 Aintree
SHAKEM UP HARRY 13/2 generally – 0.75 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
JAMES DU BERLAIS 9/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places, 1/5 odds)
We have 2 selections in the Topham Chase.
We will start with SHAKEM UP HARRY who was a winner at the Cheltenham Festival in the Plate Handicap. He jumped superbly and to me he looks tailor made for these fences. He just looks that proper National type horse and although he probably wouldn’t stay the Grand National Trip, the 2m 5f in the Topham Chase is perfect. Trainer Ben Pauling is having a fantastic season and his horses are flying along at the moment. He had a winner today in the Mares Bumper and I expect SHAKEM UP HARRY to be primed. He was also a winner at Cheltenham in January and is two wins on the bounce. He is clearly in the form of his life and Ben Pauling has got him at his absolute peak. He is up to 149 which will not be easy but I do think he will take to the course and fences like a duck to water. I also like that he will be ridden prominently and should be able to stay out of trouble and let his jumping do the talking. I think he should be favourite and can see plenty of value in his price. E/W.
Our 2nd selection is JAMES DU BERLAIS who has threatened to win all season. To be fair he has not run a bad race, placing on all 4 starts. His handicap mark has come down a couple of pound since Cheltenham where he finished 7th to Shakem Up Harry but he does meet our other selections on 7lb better terms. I expect the Willie Mullins horse to travel nicely into the race but he often finds little at the end of his races. Maybe that has been down to his handicap mark and the further it comes down, the better chance he will have of getting home. No doubt he is a talented horse and one day it will all come together, hopefully over the National Fences. Paul Townend takes the ride and he will surely be thereabouts. E/W.
