March 2018 Review

March was a funny month if truth be told. We came away with 4.5 points profit but it could and should’ve been more.

We started the month off really well and we had a great Cheltenham Festival.

It was the week after the Cheltenham Festival which was our undoing and we went on a losing run of 18 horses before we found a winner. That was our longest losing run of 2018 but actually shows how good the rest of the month was because despite a losing run of 18 without a winner, we still made a profit for the month.

At the end of March things have started to pick and we have found the winners enlosure twice.

We are now 30 points in profit for 2018 and currently sitting on a 12% ROI. You can see all of our winners and detailed results on our Horse Racing Results page.

We remain professional, focused and determined to bring you the best tipping service around.

We are all about long term profit at JPW and we have a plan in place which will do exactly that. We have been in the game for 10 years and have plenty of experience. We simply know what it takes in order to make as much profit as we can long term.

I will now sum up the month below:

Number Of Winners = 11 winners
Number Of E/W = 14 E/W returns
Biggest Priced Winner = 28/1

So in total we have 11 winners. We had some lovely priced winners – 28/1, 20/1, 14/1, 12/1, 11/1, 7/1, 5/1 11/2, 11/4, 4/1, 9/4 were all the winners for the month.

We went so close to landing a few more big priced winners as Shantou Flyer went down by a short distance at 20/1 and the same with Rather Be.

On another month some of those 14 EW bets would return at winners.

Highlight of the month

Well it has to be BLEU BERRY at the Cheltenham Festival who we tipped at 28/1. A great moment and a great feeling. I put my life and soul into that Cheltenham Festival so to be rewarded with a 28/1 winner made me very happy.

I wouldn’t say it was my most satisfying tip of the month mind.

The most satisfying tip was PRESENTING PERCY. For around 6 weeks I was adamant Monalee was the bet in the RSA but getting closer to the day and the changes in ground, how the race was going to run, my intuition was telling me PRESENTING PERCY. I would’ve had massive egg on my face had I got this one wrong as I told everyone how I had changed my mind last minute. Because of the vision and how Cheltenham rides I got the race absolutely spot on from start to finish. Very satisfying when you call it spot on.

What was sent to the customers for the above horses?

2:10 RSA Novice Chase
PRESENTING PERCY 11/4 generally – 2 POINTS WIN

Going back last week I was in the Monalee camp but that was until I started going into the finer detail. I could get egg on my face here by changing my mind, I know the risks attached but I have to go with my head and how I see the race being run.

The reason I am now taking on Monalee is after watching replays he is always keen and will not want to be far away from the pace. The ground is going to be no better than soft come the Wednesday and if not still heavy ground. I am just unsure if Monalee will get home in the ground especially with it likely to be a fast pace with a few horses who like to get on with it. I think they may have been better going for the JLT Chase. I am not going to tell you he can’t win but they are reasons I am happy to take him.

Black Corton has done nothing but improve all season and he likes it around Cheltenham. I think he will do too much in front and surely this is a grade too high against this calibre of horse.

Al Bout Photo is quietly fancied by connections but again I have my doubts about whether he will get home.

Remember this race is going to be a gruelling test, similar to the gold cup and I believe those horses who get cover and let others do the donkey work will be staying on up the hill.

Dounikos finished behind Monalee and Al Boum Photo< so I can’t see how he reverses the form and the rest are simply not good enough in my opinion. That leaves us with PRESENTING PERCY who was a winner of the Petemps Hurdle last season. He clearly likes it around Cheltenham and is the perfect horse to come from off the pace. He will be held up by Davey Russell and make his move after the 3rd last fence to take closer order. PRESENTING PERCY stays forever and won a handicap chase carrying top weight 2 starts back, over 3m 5f. This is the type of horse you are going to need to win this race. A hardened horse who jumps, stays and is happy to get in a battle. Come the bottom of the hill he will have his ears pricked still motoring up it instead of crying enough. Patrick Kelly is a magician at getting them ready for 1 day only and that will be the case with PRESENTING PERCY. You could argue that he is good enough to run in a Gold Cup considering he was only beaten by 1 length against the now gold 3rd favourite Our Duke. To get within a length of that horse and do it as a novice says a lot about the battle hardened horse. PRESENTING PERCY is a typical future Gold Cup horse and has all the right attributes to win this race and win it comfortably. I actually make him a 7/4 chance now I have gone into a bit more detail.

BLEU BERRY 28/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W

Next up is BLEU BERRY who will be ridden by Paul Townend another master in these handicaps. You only have to go back to his ride last year on Arctic Fire to see how good he is at decision making and then in 2015 when Wicklow Brave won the County Hurdle. Two fantastic rides I am sure the horses may have lost the race had other jockeys been on board. BLEU BERRY ran up three consecutive wins last year including a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse. He was then sent to the Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival finishing 5th the likes of Bacardys, Finians Oscar, Death Duty and Let’s Dance. That is four high class horses so Willie Mullins obviously thinks this horse is talented. I think he could turn out to be better than his handicap mark of 142 and he has only been seen once this season when finishing down the field in a handicap at Leopardstown when travelling well before blowing up. He needed that run and the cobwebs will be blown off and I expect a big run here. Willie Mullins is a master at getting horses spot on for one race and again I think this has been the plan for sometime. Massive value at the prices. E/W.
