2:30 York
AFAAK 22/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W (6 places Sky Bet and William Hill)
EUCHEN GLEN 28/1 generally – 0.5 POINTS E/W ((6 places Sky Bet and William Hill)

We have 2 selections in this race.

I narrowed this race down to 6 horses who could potentially be a bet at the prices and they were Solid Stone, Fifth Position, Harrovian, What’s The Story, AFAAK and EUCHEN GLEN.
In the end I decided to take on Solid Stone as with the rain forecast, I think it has slightly gone against him. Fifth Position does not look the easiest ride although his high knee action would be suited if it turned out soft ground. Harrovian beat nothing last time out and will have to step up massively to win this but is highly progressive. What’s The Story loves York but is surely too high in the handicap which left me with AFAAK and EUCHEN GLEN.
AFAAK ran in this race last year, following his win in last year’s Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. He came here on a handicap mark of 108 last season but this year is 3lb lower on a mark of 105. He has had one run this season, which was also in the Royal Hunt Cup, coming home 7th of 23. It was a fair effort given it was his first run of the season and I think he will come on for that race. Any rain will not be a problem as he won on soft ground last season. When running in this race last year he finished 5th of 21 so you have to expect a 3lb lower mark, he can at least make the frame. Overpriced in my opinion and if he comes on for his last run, as I expect, 20/1 looks huge. E/W.
EUCHEN GLEN won this race back in 2018 off a mark of 99 at 20/1. Given he has previous winning race form the price of 28/1 is an insult. He lines up here on a 3lb higher mark at 102 but I think he is still capable off that mark. Jim Goldie has clearly trained him with this race in mind as he ran at Doncaster a month ago, following a 701 day lay off, in a listed race. He travelled strongly into the race but got tired which is understandable after so long off the track. He then went to Haydock 2 weeks ago for the Old Newton Handicap. He again travelled better than anything but got tired late on. He went straight in my notebook that day as I felt they were up to something with the horse. Any rain that falls will not be a problem as he has previous form on soft ground. He also stays that bit further so if it did turn into a staying race, it would suit him. I think his price is huge and was simply too good not to get involved.
