I have noticed that from replays that over the last few years those who are prominent or led have won this race most of the time. EXCEL POWER is the likely front runner here and is drawn nicely in 5, which means Hollie Doyle can grab the rail. Hollie Doyle also won this race last year so she knows the type of ride needed to win in a race like this. The tactics she applied last year on a front runner are sure to be replicated here.
EXCEL POWER is only a 4 year old who is improving all the time and is 2 from 2 this season. In fact since he stepped up to 1 mile he has not stopped improving.
I am sure he still has more improvement to come and with 5 places on offer, he should make the places at the very least. E/W.
Many of you will know I put LA TRINIDAD up as a horse to follow a few starts back along the lines of running in June and the faster the ground the better. Well yesterday I was not sure he would get the ground required but today the ground has dried out to good ground and with temperatures dry overnight, sunny tomorrow, it could dry out too good to firm by race time tomorrow, which will be absolutely perfect.
Last time out I thought LA TRINIDAD travelled well and was given a tentative ride by Paul Mulrennan and looked to be saved for another day. In the process his handicap mark has come down to 91 which is just 2lb higher than when he won at York last July.
Ben Curtis takes the ride today which is an excellent booking as he has been riding out of his skin this season and is full of confidence.
I know I have mentioned that front runners have a great record in this race and LA TRINIDAD is a hold up horse but I do think Epsom may suit him well as the straight is 3f long. With a strong pace he should travel nicely into the race and will have plenty of time to get going. I think he is overpriced and should outrun his big odds. E/W.
